'Be Faithful.'
Matt. 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
What are we known for? The church that is? That’s a probing question.
What kind of church am I?
I think there’s a particular passage in Acts that gives some light on this question.
Acts 4:13 (ESV) Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. (were without fear, confidence, were not afraid, courage, constancy, fearlessly outspoken, steadfastness)
‘Fearless love.’ Aren’t we called to be like Him? Like Jesus.
‘You have to be with Him to be Like Him.’
Compassion.
- Cares & is Concerned about the eternal well being of humanity
- Cares & is Concerned about the spiritual health & growth of our church family
- Protects the weak & vulnerable
- Carries the presence of God and has Divine ability to do what we can’t do.
Jesus _____________ His church. He’s not done with us. With me. With you.
Stay with it. Don’t quit. Don’t give up.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9,16–18
8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
