In the Old Testament the anointing (the Holy Spirit) was reserved for those serving as Priest, Prophet or King. The anointing was not for the layman.
In the New Testament Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would come to us to be in close fellowship with us.
However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. John 16:7
In this New Covenant that we are in, a close walk, partnership and fellowship with the Holy Spirit is available to all believers in Jesus.
“And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen,
And everyone his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
For all will know Me,
From the least to the greatest of them.” Hebrews 8:11
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. 1 John 2:20
In this introduction of our study on the Holy Spirit we establish how vital it is for all believers to walk hand in hand with our Helper. We can all have the benefit of a close relationship with Him.
